n8n and Prompteryx both have visual workflow builders. n8n is strongest at connecting APIs, with self-hosting and a large community. Prompteryx is built around the browser: a browser engine, an AI agent that operates websites, video of each cloud run, and your own logged-in Chrome. The two can also work together: an n8n workflow can start a Prompteryx workflow through the REST API, and Prompteryx can send a signed webhook back when it finishes.
Facts about n8n checked on 25 October 2026 from its own website and documentation. Sources are at the end of the page.
n8n is a workflow automation platform with a node-based visual editor, more than 500 built-in integrations and an HTTP node for any API. It can be self-hosted for free (Community Edition, under n8n's Sustainable Use Licence) or used as n8n Cloud. It has an AI Agent node, MCP client and server support, evaluations for AI workflows, and JavaScript and Python code nodes. For browser work, n8n has a built-in node for Airtop (a separate cloud browser service with its own account) and community nodes. n8n charges by execution: one full workflow run counts as one execution, however many steps it has.
Prompteryx runs Chrome itself, in the cloud or on your own computer, with 80+ browser actions on the canvas. In n8n, browser steps go through a third-party service such as Airtop (with its own account and billing) or a community node.
Describe a website task in the chat and the AI Browser Agent does it in a real browser, step by step. Save the run as a workflow and it replays without AI costs. n8n's AI Agent node orchestrates tools and APIs; browser control comes from the Airtop node or community nodes.
Every Prompteryx cloud browser run is recorded as a video you can watch back, which makes failures on websites quick to understand. n8n shows each execution on the canvas with the input and output data of every node, which is excellent for API steps but is not a video of a browser.
Prompteryx Desktop (Windows, beta) lets the agent and workflows use your own Chrome profile with the sites you are already signed in to. n8n's browser options run in a cloud browser service rather than your own Chrome.

n8n is an excellent workflow platform, especially for API work and for teams that want to self-host. Prompteryx is the better fit when the work happens in a browser: websites with no API, logged-in portals, forms and scraping, with an AI agent that does the job and a recording to prove it. The two can work together through Prompteryx's REST API and webhooks.
Yes, through the REST API. An n8n HTTP Request node can start a Prompteryx workflow, and Prompteryx can call an n8n Webhook trigger with a signed workflow.completed event when it finishes, so you can keep your n8n workflows and add browser steps where you need them. A dedicated Prompteryx node for n8n is not published yet.
Yes, through other services. n8n includes a built-in node for Airtop, a cloud browser service that needs its own Airtop account, and there are community nodes for other browser tools. n8n does not run a browser engine of its own. Prompteryx runs the browser itself, in the cloud or in your own Chrome.
No. Prompteryx is a cloud service. Prompteryx Desktop (Windows, beta) runs the AI agent and workflows in Chrome on your own computer, which keeps your logins on your machine, but the platform itself is not self-hosted.
Checked on 25 October 2026: n8n Cloud charges by executions, from €20 a month for 2,500 executions (billed yearly), and the Community Edition is free to self-host. Prompteryx plans start at $20 a month and include 3,000 workflow executions, AI Credits and cloud-browser hours. In both, a whole workflow run counts as one execution.
