    Prompteryx Desktop

The desktop app for Windows: run automations in your own Chrome, and use Prompteryx in its own window.

Prompteryx Desktop (it used to be called the Prompteryx Plugin) runs on your computer next to the Prompteryx in Chrome. Together they let workflows and the AI Browser Agent work in your own Chrome: your logins, your cookies, your saved sessions. Local runs use free local minutes instead of cloud browser minutes.

Download it from the download page, then follow Installation to pair it with your account and the extension.

    Your own Chrome

Pick a Chrome profile when you run a workflow or start the AI Browser Agent, and it runs there instead of in a cloud browser. Your own Chrome can do everything a cloud browser task can, with any model on the public list: the Prompteryx models (Prompteryx Jev too), Gemini, Claude and GPT.

    See Chrome Automation Profiles.

    Automatic updates

Updates download and install themselves, and every download is checked before it is installed. Desktop settings show your version, with Check now.

    Runs that keep going

A task in your own Chrome is run by Prompteryx Desktop itself, so it keeps running after you close or refresh the tab, saves its progress to your account, and can be followed and stopped from any device. When it finishes, the chat shows it as done everywhere and the recording arrives in the chat. This is Keep local runs going in the background in Settings → AI Browser Agent, and it is on by default. Logs and history show your Chrome profile's name.

With Allow remote control from my phone on, you can also start tasks on this computer from your phone. From version 1.6.0, switch on Allow choosing my Chrome profiles from my phone (Desktop settings → Phone) too, and the phone's browser agent options let you pick which of your Prompteryx Chrome profiles the task uses. Desktop shares only the profiles' names with your account, never their cookies or files, and removes the names again when you switch the setting off.

Local MCP servers and extensions (early access)

For early-access accounts, Prompteryx Desktop 1.6.0 and later can run MCP servers on your PC (programs that give the chat extra tools, for example for local apps or files). Their tools then appear in the web app under Connections → On this computer (see Connectors).

    • Settings → Developer lists your local servers. Add one with its name, command, arguments and settings, or paste a claude_desktop_config.json. Each shows Running, Stopped or Failed, with Start, Stop, Logs, Edit and Remove.
    • Settings → Extensions → Install extension… installs a one-click .mcpb (or older .dxt) file. Desktop checks the file first and shows its name, author, version, the exact command it will run, its tools and the settings it needs before you press Install.
    • Nothing runs until you approve its exact command; if the command changes, Desktop asks again. Secret settings such as API keys are stored encrypted by Windows and are never shown.
    • Servers start when the chat first needs them, stop after 10 idle minutes, and always stop when Desktop quits.
    • From 1.6.2, Blender is a connector: Settings → Connectors → Blender → Connect installs Blender Lab's official Blender connector. In Blender (5.1 or newer), install the MCP add-on from the Blender Lab MCP page and press Start MCP Server, then press Test connection in Desktop. Blender's connector runs with uv (a free helper); from 1.6.3 Desktop downloads the official uv itself when the computer does not have it. From 1.6.3 you can also connect Blender from the chat: connectors menu → Add connector → On this computer. Inside Desktop, the web app's Settings → This computer and Connections → On this computer show Blender too.
    • In the web app, each tool has Always allow, Ask first or Off. Tools that can change things always ask first in scheduled runs.

    What's new in 1.6.3

    Current version: 1.6.3.

    • Blender is a normal connector: in the chat's connectors menu, Add connector shows On this computer → Blender with a Connect button when Desktop runs on this computer. Desktop Settings → Connectors → Blender still works.
    • No need to install uv yourself: Desktop downloads the official uv when Blender needs it, checks it is genuine and keeps it in its own folder (no admin rights, no commands).
    • Fixed: the "Connect Blender to Prompteryx?" box was cut off. It is now a normal box that always fits. Test connection names the missing step (Blender closed or older than 5.1, add-on missing or off, server not started, or the community add-on using the port).
    • Connectors on this computer follow what your account allows (no longer admins only). Desktop still asks before any server first starts.

    In 1.6.2

    • Blender is now a simple connector (early access): This PC → Settings → Connectors → Blender → Connect sets up Blender Lab's official Blender connector with no commands to type. Test connection says whether Blender is closed, its MCP add-on is off, or it is connected.
    • Fixed: in 1.6.1 Blender could not work with the official Blender add-on (the old button set up a different, community-made server). Connect switches the old setup off.
    • A long Blender job now says "Blender is still working on this" instead of failing after 90 seconds. Community Blender servers you add yourself start with their telemetry off.
    • "Allow choosing my Chrome profiles from my phone" is on by default unless you turned it off. It still needs "Allow remote control from my phone".

    In 1.6.1

    • Fixed: after signing in, Desktop sometimes said "Chat not found". Signing in now always opens a new chat, and starting Desktop never reopens an old chat by itself.
    • Easier to find: inside Desktop, the web app's Settings has a This computer section that opens Developer, Extensions, Phone, Chrome profiles, Folders and Updates. The … menu has Phone settings too.
    • Fixed: opening Selector Picker or a recording no longer closes your own Chrome windows. Only the Chrome of the Prompteryx profile it needs is closed.
    • Early access: a Blender button in Settings → Developer sets up the Blender MCP server in one click, and Desktop finds uv and uvx even when they were installed after it started.

    In 1.6.0

    • Fixed: the Prompteryx Browser Agent step in a workflow no longer fails at once with "ENOTDIR, not a directory" when it runs on this PC.
    • Early access: run local MCP servers and one-click extensions (.mcpb) on your PC and use their tools from the chat, in Settings → Developer and Settings → Extensions. Nothing starts until you approve its exact command.
    • New setting, off by default: Allow choosing my Chrome profiles from my phone (Settings → Phone) lets a task started from your phone run in the Chrome profile you pick.

    In 1.5.10

    • Backup selectors and the AI fallback work on every selector step, including Fill, Check, Select Option and Extract Text (the AI reads the text).
    • A broken selector fails over in seconds, and the run log says which selector or the AI did each step.

    In 1.5.9

    • The installer and app are signed by PROMPTERYX LIMITED, so Windows shows our name as the publisher.

    In 1.5.8

    • The agent's pointer has no label any more and stays on screen between steps, including after a page changes.

    In 1.5.7

    • The agent's purple pointer shows where it clicks, types and scrolls in your Chrome. Switch it off in Settings → AI Browser Agent → Show the agent's pointer.

    In 1.5.6

    • Any model in your own Chrome: Claude and GPT now run tasks in your Chrome profiles, not only the Gemini-based models, including in the background with the tab closed.
    • Background runs finish cleanly: when a task ends, the chat shows it as done on every device, and the recording arrives in the chat. End Chat saves the video.
    • Background runs are on by default. You can still switch them off in Settings → AI Browser Agent.

    In 1.5.5

    • Recordings of tasks in your own Chrome save again, with the Watch recording link in the chat.
    • The live view keeps up with the agent even when the Chrome window is covered or minimised.
    • Prompteryx Desktop runs the whole background task itself: close the tab, reopen the chat anywhere, or stop it from any device.
    • Dropdowns: the agent picks the exact option you asked for and checks what it picked.
    • Follow-up messages keep the earlier task, so "try another way" carries on from where it left off.

    Prompteryx Desktop is in beta.

The app in its own window

Prompteryx Desktop opens the Prompteryx app in its own window with its own taskbar icon, like the Claude and ChatGPT desktop apps. Everything in the web app is there: chats, projects, the sidebar.

    • Already signed in: the window uses the desktop app's account, with no second sign-in.
    • Quick prompt: press Ctrl+Alt+Space anywhere to ask something; the answer opens in the window. If another app uses that shortcut, the window picks another and shows it.
    • Notifications when a long reply finishes.
    • This PC: the chip in the window's title bar opens the panel with your Chrome profiles and Desktop settings. Ctrl+, opens it too, as does Desktop settings in your account menu.
    • Other websites open in your normal browser; the window only shows Prompteryx.

    Troubleshooting

If a local run can't reach your computer, make sure Prompteryx Desktop is running (its icon is in the system tray) and the extension is installed and up to date (the current version is 3.2.3). Installation has a troubleshooting section.
