    Select Option Node

    Browser Node

Select options from dropdown menus and select elements

    Overview

The Select Option node allows you to choose options from HTML <select> dropdown elements. You can select an option by its value or by its visible label text.

    Parameters
    Configuration options for this node
    selector
    Selector
    Required

CSS selector or Playwright locator for the select element

    Example: #country, select[name='region'], getByLabel('Country')
    value
    String

The option's hidden form value. Takes priority over label when set — leave blank to match by label.

    Example: us
    label
    String

The option text a user sees in the dropdown. Used only when value is blank.

    Example: United States
    labelMatch
    Select

How to match the label: Contains (first option whose text contains yours, preferring an exact match) or Exact match. Ignored when value is set.

    Default: contains
    timeout
    Number

Maximum time to wait for the element in milliseconds

    Default: 30000
    force
    Boolean

    Bypass actionability checks

    Default: false
    selector_fallbackEnabled
    Boolean

Enable automatic fallback to alternative selectors

    Default: true

    Selection Methods

    Select by Value

Select the option whose value attribute matches the specified value.

    <option value="us">United States</option>
    // Select by value: 'us'
    Select by Label

Leave Value blank and enter the option's visible text in Label. By default the first option whose text contains your label is selected (an exact match is preferred); set Label match to Exact match to require the full text.

    <option value="us">United States</option>
// Select by label: 'United States'

    Usage Examples

    Example 1: Select Country
Select a country from a dropdown by value
    Selector:#country-select
    Value: us
    Example 2: Select Using Variable
Select based on data from a previous step
    Selector:getByLabel("Shipping Region")
    Value: (blank)
    Label:{{userRegion}}

    Custom Dropdowns

    Non-Native Dropdowns

This node only works with native HTML <select> elements. For custom dropdowns built with<div>, <ul>, or JavaScript libraries (like React Select), use this workflow instead:

    1. Click the dropdown trigger to open it
    2. Wait for options to appear
    3. Click the desired option

    Best Practices

    Prefer Value Over Label
Option values are usually more stable than visible labels. Labels may change with translations or UI updates, but values typically remain constant.
    Verify Selection
Add an assertion after selection to verify the correct option was selected, especially in critical workflows like checkout or registration.
