    Chrome Automation Profiles

    Feature

Run automations with persistent browser sessions

    Overview

Chrome Automation Profiles allow you to run workflows with persistent browser sessions. This means cookies, local storage, and login sessions are preserved between workflow runs, eliminating the need to log in every time.

Chrome profiles run on your own computer and need Prompteryx Desktop. If the desktop app isn't connected, the profile menu marks your Chrome profiles "Not connected" with a "Set up" link, and the AI Browser Agent runs on Cloud Browser instead. Cloud profiles, listed under Cloud Profiles in the same menu, run on our Cloud Browser and don't need the desktop app.

    Benefits

    Persistent Logins
Stay logged in to websites across workflow runs. No need to automate login every time.
    Multiple Accounts
Use different profiles for different accounts. Switch between clients, test environments, or personal accounts.
    Local & Secure
Chrome profile data is stored by Prompteryx Desktop on your machine. Your cookies and logins are not sent to any cloud service.

    Creating a Profile

Profiles are managed through Prompteryx Desktop, which must be running. To create a new profile:

    1. Open Visual Studio or AI Browser Agent
    2. Click the "Profile" dropdown in the header bar
    3. Under Chrome Profiles, click "+ New Chrome Profile"
    4. Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "Work Gmail", "Client X Account") and click "Create Profile"
    5. Click the open icon next to the new profile ("Open Chrome with this profile") to open a browser with it
    6. Log in to the websites you need
    7. Close the browser - your session is saved automatically

    Using Profiles

The profile selector dropdown open in the toolbar, listing local Chrome automation profiles and the Cloud Browser section
The profile selector in the toolbar — your local Chrome profiles on top, cloud browser profiles below.
    In Visual Studio

Select your profile from the Profile dropdown in the header toolbar before running your workflow:

    1. Open your workflow in Visual Studio
    2. In the header bar, find the "Profile" dropdown (shows a Chrome or cloud icon)
    3. Select the profile you want to use
    4. Click "Run Workflow" - it will use the selected profile
The selected profile applies to all browser nodes in your workflow. You can see which profile is being used in the Execution Logs when the workflow runs.
    In AI Browser Agent

Select your profile from the header before starting a chat session:

    1. Open the AI Browser Agent
    2. In the header bar, find the "Profile" dropdown (it shows Cloud Browser when your Chrome isn't connected)
    3. Select the profile with the login sessions you need
    4. Start your chat - the agent will use that profile's browser session
    In Chrome Sidebar Agent

The Chrome Sidebar Extension always runs in the Chrome browser profile it is installed in, using that profile's existing logins. To run on a Prompteryx automation profile instead, pick it in the full AI Browser Agent or Visual Studio.

    Default Profile Setting

You can set a default profile to use automatically in each tool:

    • Open Settings (gear icon)
    • Go to the Visual Studio or AI Browser Agent section
    • Select your preferred profile under Default Browser Profile

The default profile is used when you don't explicitly select a different one.

    Best Practices

    One Profile Per Account
Create separate profiles for each account/identity. Don't mix personal and work accounts in the same profile.
    Manually Log In First
Before using a profile in automation, open it manually (Profile dropdown → the open icon next to the profile) and complete any 2FA or verification steps. Some sites remember the device after manual login.
    Keep Profiles Updated
Sessions can expire. If a workflow starts failing at login screens, open the profile manually and re-authenticate.
    Use Descriptive Names
Name profiles clearly (e.g., "Personal Gmail", "Company LinkedIn", "Test Environment") so you can easily identify which to use.
