    Installation

Start right away on Cloud Browser, or set up Prompteryx in Chrome and Desktop app to run automations in your own Chrome

The Prompteryx signup page: create your account with Google, Apple or email, next to a summary of what the free trial includes
Step zero — create your account. The signup page lists exactly what the free trial includes.

    Two Ways to Run Automations

Choose the approach that works best for you. You can switch between them at any time.

    Cloud BrowserNEW

No installation needed. Runs automations on a remote browser in the cloud. The AI Browser Agent uses Cloud Browser automatically whenever your local desktop app isn't connected; in Visual Studio, select "Cloud Browser" from the profile dropdown.

Local (Prompteryx in Chrome + Desktop App)

Install Prompteryx in Chrome and Prompteryx Desktop to run in your own Chrome with your existing logins and profiles. Local runs don't use your plan's cloud-browser minutes, and Batch Prompter needs the desktop app.

    Local Setup: Two Components Required

If you choose to run automations locally, install both of these:

    1

    Prompteryx in Chrome

Enables communication between the web platform and your local desktop app

    2

    Prompteryx Desktop

Executes automations locally on your computer with full browser control

How the Platform Checks Your Setup

When a local Chrome profile is selected, the AI Browser Agent and Visual Studio toolbars show a connection badge that tells you what's installed and what you might be missing (on Cloud Browser it's replaced by a Cloud Browser indicator). Visual Studio uses the shorter labels "No Extension" and "No Desktop app".

In the AI Browser Agent, picking a local Chrome profile while the desktop app isn't connected opens a 3-step setup guide (install the desktop app, sign in to it, add the extension) with live ticks that re-check every 3 seconds.

    Extension Required

Prompteryx in Chrome is not detected. Install it first to enable platform communication.

    Desktop App Not Running

Extension detected, but the desktop app isn't running. Download and start the desktop app.

    Connected

Both extension and desktop app are working. You're ready to use Prompteryx!

    Install Prompteryx in Chrome

Required for local runs on prompteryx.ai

    Prompteryx AI Browser Agent
    On the Chrome Web Store

Prompteryx in Chrome enables secure communication between the Prompteryx web platform and your local desktop app. It also provides the AI Browser Agent sidebar for hands-free automation.

Add to ChromeDownload extension ZIP (manual install)

Manual install from the ZIP (only if you can't use the Chrome Web Store):

    1. Unzip the download to a folder you will keep
    2. Open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode
    3. Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder
    4. Pin the Prompteryx icon, then reload prompteryx.ai
Once installed, the connection badge changes from red "Extension Required" to amber "Desktop app Not Running" (or green "Connected" if the desktop app is already running)
    2

    Install Prompteryx Desktop

    Required for local runs

You Need Prompteryx in Chrome Too

On prompteryx.ai, the web app reaches the desktop app on your computer through Prompteryx in Chrome (Step 1), so local runs need both installed.

    System Requirements

    Windows

    Windows 10 or later (64-bit)

About 500 MB of disk space

Google Chrome or a Chromium browser

    Download Desktop App

    Windows
    Windows 10 or later (64-bit)

    Loading... (~340 MB)

All versions, checksums and release notes are on the download page.

    Installation Steps

    a

    Download the Installer

Click the download button above. Save the installer to your Downloads folder.

    b

    Run the Installer

    Double-click Prompteryx-Setup-<version>.exe

If Windows SmartScreen appears, click "More info" → "Run anyway"

    Follow the installation wizard

    c

    Launch the Desktop App

The desktop app will start automatically after installation. You'll see a small Prompteryx icon in your system tray (bottom-right corner on Windows). The desktop app starts on Windows startup by default.

    d

Sign In to the Desktop App

Right-click the Prompteryx tray icon and choose Sign in…. Your browser opens; approve the device there. Sign in with the same account you use on the web app — the desktop app won't run automations for a different account.

    e

    Verify Connection

Reload prompteryx.ai, open the AI Browser Agent or Visual Studio and pick a local Chrome profile in the profile dropdown. The toolbar badge should now show a green "Connected" status. The desktop app, the extension and the web app pair with each other automatically — there is nothing to copy or enter.

Both Extension and Desktop App Connected - You're Ready!

    Troubleshooting

    Extension Not Detected
    • Make sure you're using Chrome or a Chromium-based browser (Edge, Brave)
    • Check that the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions
    • Try refreshing the page after installing
    • Disable other extensions temporarily to check for conflicts
    Desktop App Won't Start

Check if port 61337 is already in use:

    • Close any other instances of the desktop app (check system tray)
    • Check for conflicting applications using that port
    • Try restarting your computer
Status Shows "Desktop App Not Running" but Desktop App is Installed
    • Check your system tray - the Prompteryx icon should be visible
    • If not visible, launch Prompteryx from your Start Menu or Applications folder
    • Reload the page so the badge checks again
    • Check your firewall isn't blocking localhost connections
"Update Prompteryx Desktop" or "Update Prompteryx in Chrome"

Desktop app 1.1.0 and extension 3.0.0 introduced a secure pairing between the web app, the extension and the desktop app. Older versions can no longer connect, and the setup guide tells you which one to update:

    • Desktop app: download the latest version above, install it over the old one, then reload the page
    • Extension: download the latest ZIP, remove the old extension in chrome://extensions, load the new one, then reload the page
    Windows SmartScreen Warning

If Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" message:

    1. Click "More info"
    2. Click "Run anyway"

This appears because the installer is new. Prompteryx is safe to install.

    Alternative: Cloud Browser Beta

No extension or desktop app required

Prompteryx also offers a Cloud Browser option that runs automations on a remote browser in the cloud. This means you can get started without installing Prompteryx in Chrome or Desktop app.

    How to use Cloud Browser:

    1. Open the Visual Studio or AI Browser Agent from the homepage
    2. In the AI Browser Agent, Cloud Browser is already selected when your desktop app isn't connected; in Visual Studio, select "Cloud Browser" from the profile selector dropdown
    3. Start building and running automations immediately

When to Use Local Chrome Profiles

Install Prompteryx in Chrome and Desktop app when you want automations to use your own Chrome profiles and the sites you're already signed in to, to keep local runs off your plan's cloud-browser minutes, or to use Batch Prompter. Cloud Browser (beta) runs without your computer, so it suits tasks that should keep going while you're away.
